CBI arrests three persons including two officials of a private tv channel

New Delhi, January 22, 2015: The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested three persons i.e then Chief Technical Officer & Electrician, both of Chennai based TV Channel and then Addl. PS to then Union Minister of Communication & Information Technology (IT) in an on-going investigation of a case for allegedly causing huge loss to Govt. Exchequer.
The instant case was registered on 23.07.2013 U/s 120-B r/w 409, 420 IPC and U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988 against the then Union Minister, Communication & Information Technology; the then Chief General Manager (CGM) & then CGM, both of Chennai Telephones and others. It was alleged that the then Union Minister of Communication & Information Technology (MOCIT) during the period from June, 2004 to June, 2007 and other officials of BSNL, Chennai entered into a criminal conspiracy & caused huge financial loss to the Govt. Exchequer.  The employees of BSNL/MTNL were given service connection as per their entitlement and for which they were not required to make any payments, and these facilities were mis-utilized in the said case. It was further alleged that  then Chief General Manager during the period 2004-06 and the then Chief General Manager during the period 2006-2007, both of Chennai Telephones, Chennai along with other unknown public servants of Chennai Telephones facilitated/provided  a number of high end telecommunication facilities i.e ISDN, BRA, PRA, Broad Band Connections and Leased line circuits etc  at the residence of the then Union Minister of Communication and Information Technology (MOCIT) in violation of rules/regulations & in the absence of any express provision of law. These telecommunication facilities were treated under service category and no bills were allegedly raised for the same during the period from 2004 to 2007. An alleged huge loss was caused to the Govt. of India. These connections were allegedly used by then Minister for a TV company owned by his elder brother.
The arrested accused were produced today before the Designated Court at Chennai and remanded to 14 days judicial custody.  / (SK Vyas/Jalandhar)
