Jalandhar, January 7, 2015: 36thBattalion Commanders Biennial Conference was organised at The Sikh Regimental Centre, Ramgarh Cantonment from January 6 to 7. The Conference was presided over by Lieutenant General GS Shergill, Colonel of the Sikh Regiment and attended by Brigadier KBK Keshab, Commandant Sikh Regimental Centre, Senior officers of the Regiment, Subedar Majors of all Battalions of the Regiment. During the Conference, issues pertaining to the Regiment, Training, Infrastructure development and Administration were discussed. A serious deliberation was carried out for improvement of overall standard of Jawans including their welfare. Exercise Desh Sewa was also discussed in detail to iron out any problems being faced.
A wreath laying ceremony was organised wherein all gallant Officers, JCOs and soldiers of the Sikh Regiment paid homage to the martyrs of the Regiment at the Sikh Regimental War Memorial. The Colonel of the Regiment also paid tribute to the martyrs in the end.
After a visit to the training, administrative and welfare facilities of SIKH Regimental Centre, the General addressed all ranks in a special Sainik Sammelan and called upon them to continue to strive with commitment and dedication to bring laurels to the SIKH Regiment. He cited the example of 5 SIKH battalion which won accolades from every citizen of India for their selfless and exemplary service during Uttarakhand Rescue & Relief operations in June 2013.
On 07 Jan 2015, Sikh Regimental Centre at Ramgarh witnessed colourful and spectacular passing out parade when 225 young recruits from Punjab took oath to serve the Nation with honour and dedication. Lt Gen G S Shergill, Colonel of the Sikh Regiment reviewed the parade and called upon the newly inducted soldiers to follow the righteous path and bring laurels to the SIKH Regiment. ‘Naam, Namak and Nishan’ should form the foundation of each soldier during his career. The Colonel of The Regiment also felicitated the recruits who excelled in various fields during training. The soldiers took oath after paying their respects to the Holy Guru Granth Sahib.
The jawans of the Sikh Regiment presented a colourful programme on the occasion which made the evening very special and memorable. A Barakhana was also organised where in Lt Gen GS Shergill, the Colonel of The Regiment, interacted with JCOs and OR in an informal manner.
