Ferozepur, January 3, 2015: BSF personnel failed yet another bid of Pakistani smugglers and recovered five packets of contraband suspected to be Heroin worth Rs.25 crore in the International Market in the area of responsibility of Border Outpost (BoP) Rattoke in Ferozepur Sector.
R.K.Thapa, DIG, Ferozepur Sector while addressing a press conference today said that during the wee hours today, BSF troops deployed on duty in the area of responsibility of Border Outpost Rattoke in Ferozepur Sector observed some suspicious movement of smugglers across Border Security Fence from Pakistan side. Later, sound of something thrown near the Border Security fence was heard and the sentry on duty immediately rushed towards the spot from where the sound came. The BSF troops challenged the smugglers but they were fired upon by the Pakistani smugglers. To stop their misadventure and sensing danger to their life, own troops opened fire in self defence. However, smugglers managed to escape taking cover of foggy weather, darkness and wheat crops.
During search of the area, 5 packets of contraband suspected to be heroin worth Rs.25 crores in International market were recovered near Border Security Fence. He said that the enhanced vigil of BSF troops has once again thwarted the attempt of smugglers/ anti-national elements to smuggle contraband items into India.
R.K.Thapa said that BSF Personnel have recovered more than 97.90 Kg heroin during the year 2014 in Ferozepur Sector.
