Chandigarh, January 3, 2015: Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh today congratulated the Coast Guard and various intelligence and security agencies of the country for intercepting a suspicious ferry that was coming from Pakistan and was headed towards Indian coast.
In a statement issued here today, Capt Amarinder said, given the way the boat caught fire and burnt down, it was most likely that it was carrying some suspicious substance which people aboard did not want to be seized. Moreover, he added, since the international drug cartels take care of their people they prefer to lay down their life than to be caught lest they spill the beans and that in all probability appears to be the reason as why they set the boat on fire.
“One thing appears to be likely that the boat was carrying the contraband as the smugglers are finding it difficult to smuggle it through the land borders”, he observed while congratulating the intelligence and security agencies and also the Coast Guard for intercepting it and forcing its occupants to set it on fire hence preventing it from landing on the Indian harbour.
The former Chief Minister pointed out, the smugglers have mostly been using the land route. However, with increase vigilance on the borders, the smugglers now appear to have adopted the sea route. He said, when intercepted the people on the boat instead of getting caught apparently set it on fire to prevent anything from getting seized and revealed as it could have exposed a greater network and a bigger game plan.
