Two to three years rigorous imprisonment to then field officer of SBI and two then inspectors of IT in separate cases of bribery

New Delhi, December 23, 2014: The Special Judge, CBI cases,  Raipur (Chhattisgarh) has convicted Shri Bilasrao Barwad then field officer, State Bank of India, Korba U/s 7, 13 (2 ) r/w 13 (1)(d) of PC Act, 1988 and sentenced him to undergo  two years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.25,000 each under both the sections in a bribery case.
CBI had registered a Case against Bilasrao Barwad, Field Officer, SBI, Gevra Project Branch, Korba U/s 7, 13 (2) r/w 13 (1) (d) of PC Act, 1988 on a complaint alleging a demand of bribe for Rs.6000 for further processing and sanction of Personal Loan of Rs.75,000/- (approx). A trap was laid on 29.06.2010 and the accused  was caught red handed while demanding & accepting bribe of Rs.6000 from Complainant. A charge sheet was filed against Shri Bilasrao Barwad, then Field Officer, SBI on 20/12/2010 in the Court of Special Judge, CBI cases Raipur U/s 7 & 13 (2) r/w 13 (1)(d) of PC Act, 1988.
In another case, the Special Judge, CBI cases, Jabalplur (Madhya Pradesh) has convicted Dilip Takhtani, then Inspector of Income Tax, and Brijendra Nath Bala @ B N Bala, then Inspector of Income Tax, both working in the office of Commissioner of Income Tax-II, Jabalpur, in a bribery case.   Dilip Takhtani was sentenced to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.15,000 and Brijendra Nath Bala @ B N Bala was sentenced to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.5,000.
CBI had filed charge sheet before the Special Judge, CBI cases, Jabalplur on 24-02-2009 U/s 120-B of IPC and Sections 7 & 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988, alleging that Shri Dilip Takhtani in conspiracy with B. N. Bala demanded an illegal gratification of Rs. 1,000 for not conducting proceedings of Income Tax Act on the basis of survey conducted by them earlier. Both the accused were caught red handed on 11-09-2008 while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.1,000 from the Complainant.
The Trial Court found the accused persons guilty and convicted them.
