Chandigarh, November 26, 2014: Chairman Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes Rajesh Bagha today received National Guru Ravidass Rattan Award for his immense efforts and contribution to safeguard the interests and rights of Scheduled Castes students besides motivating them towards higher education.
This prestigious award has been bestowed on him jointly by Indresh Kumar, Senior RSS leader and former Chief Justice of India K.G.Balakrishnan at a function organised by Babu Jagjiwan Ram Kala Sanskriti and Sahit Academy at New Delhi. The academy lauded the initiatives taken by Bagha in the field of education for poverty stricken students of society especially from Scheduled Castes community.
In his address President of academy Suraj Bhan Kataria said the academy had conducted a survey in the country to identify the personalities contributing the society on varied fronts. He said in Punjab Bagha worked day and night for the implementation of Post Matric Scholarship Scheme in true spirit securing future of thousands of SC students. He said in view of his commitment, he has been chosen for this prestigious award for the year 2014.
Indresh Kumar said that Mr. Bagha has played a pivotal role to convert the vision and dreams envisioned by father of constitution Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and Dalit Icon Babu Jagjiwan Ram into reality. He also gave a call to political, social and religious leaders to come forward for ensuring education to deprived sections of society.
The spokesperson of SC Commission said that prominent amongst those present on the occasion included Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla, Sat Narayan Jatia, Dr. Sanjay Paswan, both former Union Ministers, Sanjay Joshi, National RSS leader and thinkers and Scholars from Nepal as well as various states of India.
