Amarjeet Kaur, National Secretary, All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) while addressing massive gathering of students in Government College for Boys evening section at Ludhiana on Monday.

Ludhiana, November 11, 2014: The youth of India must come forward to discard myths and superstitions and lies being imposed on them and instead build as scientific rational outlook for is visualising India to be developed as egalitarian society based on justice and equality, said Amarjeet Kaur, National Secretary, All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) while addressing massive gathering of students in Government College for Boys evening section at Ludhiana yesterday. She herself having worked as national general secretary All India Students Federation took them to the history of social reforms and then political battle of the country against British Colonial rule. She said that our past should be looked at objectively for appropriate lessons for playing our role in making the future of our beloved nation for its people and not for a few profit hungry corporate business houses or for the foreign finance capital.
She warned that every change for the sake of change does not necessarily bring in better result. One must be cautious of the content and intent of those who pose as the alternatives to their woes.
She added the poverty is so glaring that 77% population of the country lives on spending of Rs.20 a day. The social sector spending is being reduced the governments are furthering polices of excluding more and more population from accessing the basic amenities to them with rampant commercialisation of education, health water, cheap housing and now sanitation. With this vast majority of people will be pushed out of these basic needs.
She further said in the name of fast development, the dependence on foreign direct investments and other financial institutes ignoring the need for domestic resources management would accelerate the pace of widening gaps in the living and working conditions of people on one hand and about miniscule affluent sections on the top. The jobless growth would further perpetuate for leaving no scope for educated youth to have proper jobs. The contractarisation/ casualisation, low paid jobs, no certainty of livelihood would further break their dreams. Kaur said that there are enough resources, financial, natural and human to take off India’s economy to the heights with an honest effect by making changes in the priority to provide enough for our people to eat, for saving one farmers from committing suicides and for creation of jobs for our youth. These are 69 families in the country whose assets are equal to half the nation’s wealth. There are almost more than six lakh crores of non-performing assets with the big business, which actually belong to the nationalised banks (Its people’s money). It is more than two lakh crores of income tax arrears to be recovered from these big businesses.
She said the central government policies instead of reversing these trends are perpetuating them more nakedly, jeopardising the interest indigenous, small, medium, home based, and cooperative sectors as well as our farming community.
She wanted them to be good students and aware citizens to defend India’s secular democratic, sovereign, socialist path which is enshrined in the preambles of Indian constitution.
On this occasion besides hundreds of students were present Dr.Dharam Singh Sandhu, Principal, Charanjit Kaur, In-charge Evening College, Prof. Paramjit Singh and Prof. Vivek Sharma.
