Jalandhar, October 20, 2014: The Corps of Military Police (CMP) celebrated its Platinum Jubilee here, yesterday. Lt Gen NPS Hira, General Officer Commanding Vajra Corps was the chief guest on the occasion. The Chief guest interacted with jawans and applauded their role in maintaining good order and military discipline. The celebration was attended by serving and retired Army officers, Junior Commissioned Officers & Jawans.
The Corps of Military Police was initially raised in 1939 at Secunderabad as Force Four Pro Unit. On 18 Oct 1947, i.e, after independence the name was changed to Corps of Indian Military Police and finally in 1950 the name got changed to Corps of Military Police.
In the true traditions of “Seva Tatha Sahayta”, the Corps of Military Police is instrumental in controlling the traffic and allied disciplinary measures of Jalandhar Cantonment. The Jalandhar Garrison is policed round the clock by CMP. Besides this, Corps of Military Police personnel are also deployed for sudden surprise checks at various places to control any malpractices. The joint checks with civil police inside the Cantonment to control rash & neglect driving has reduced the accidents considerably and round the clock vigilance at railway station has almost nullified the drugging and theft cases related to rail journey bound soldiers. In addition to their peace time duties the Corps of Military Police personnel have kept themselves geared up for their war time duties also.
