Jalandhar , October 2, 2014: On the occasion of Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a cleanliness drives was organised in 223 Advance Base Ordnance Depot (ABOD) at Suranussi (Jalandhar) wherein various citizens contributed their bit towards cleaning the planet. As part of the programme, colonel CR Bahadur, Commandant 223 ABOD administered the “Swachchhata shapath” (Cleanliness Oath) at 0900hrs to all combatants & civilian employees of the depot. At 0930 hrs, Commandant also administered an Oath to students of Kendriya Vidyalaya (Suranussi) & advised them to aadopt clean lifestyle owing to its several advantages. He also brought out a fact not known to many people that cleanliness was very dear to Gandhiji.
Thereafter, a cleanliness drive was organized at 1000 hrs in which roadside from Maqsudan Chauraha to Baba Badhbhagh Singh Samadhi was Cleaned. Waste Plastic bags, broken glasses, toffee wrappers, cardboards boxes & miscellaneous household waste material were collected as part of the drive & disposed off at a predetermined site. 08 Officers, 95 Junior Commissioned Officers & 450 Army Jawans participated in this unique effort, In addition 500 defence civilian employees & 150 Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya also participated & made the event a grand success.
In the last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given a call to clean India by 2019, coinciding with the 150th Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. This dedicated effort by the employees of 223 ABOD & students of Kendriya Vidyalaya was a successful step in that direction.
