Thanjavur(Tamil Nadu) /Chandigarh, September 19, 2014: With a view to provide value addition to food grains and development of food products in the country Union Food Processing Minister Harsimarat Kaur Badal exhorted the post-agricultural scientists to upgrade the scientific knowledge in the area of storage of grains, insect pest management and safeguarding the quality of food grains and products during food processing.
During her visited to Indian Institute of Crop Processing Technology (IICPT) here on Friday, Badal said that for maximising, conservation and utilisation of food grains it was need of the hour to preserve food grains and food products with safe scientific techniques through the application of newer technologies by research and development work.
The Minister also visited the Expo organised by successful entrepreneurs and farmers who had undergone training at IICPT. During interactive session, the farmers informed the minister regarding the skill development trainings and technical guidance extended by the IICPT and the efforts taken by IICPT for the upliftment of farmers and self help. She was very much impressed with the best facilities existing for farmers and small scale entrepreneurs.
Badal also interacted with students and staff of the institute and taken a pledge with IICPT students in their movement “towards hunger free world”. She encourage and assured full support of the ministry for such an initiative.
On the occasion Dr. U. Venkateshwarlu Union Joint Secretary Food Processing, Dr. K. Ramasamy Vice Chancellor Tamil Nadu Agriculture University, Dr. K. Alagusundaram Director IICPT were also present.
