New Delhi, August 5, 2014: The CBI Court, Thiruvananthapuram(Kerala) has convicted Mohan kumar and R. Reghunath, both then Constables of Kerala Police U/s 120B r/w 419, 420, 468 and 13(2) r/w 13(1) (d) of PC Act, 1988 and 12(1) (b) of Passport Act & Substantive Offence of 13(2) r/w 13(1) (d) of PC Act in a forgery case and sentenced them to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 10,000 each.
This was stated by the spokesperson of the CBI today.He said that the CBI had registered a case on the directions of Kerala High Court and took over the investigation of Cr.No.2/2005 of Vattiyoorkavu Police Station.
He said It was alleged that the alleged accused persons entered into a criminal conspiracy along with a travel agent at Kollam and submitted Passport Application form for a private person in the fictitious name ‘Paul Samuel’ along with forged copies of Ration Card & extract of School admission register before a recognized Travel agent at Trivandrum. Both the accused who were working in the office of SP, Special Branch, Kollam had submitted a clear police verification report without conducting police verification and sent to Passport Office.
Trivandrum, thereby, facilitated issuance of a passport in a fictitious name to said private person. Mohan Kumar,a formerly Constable is presently working as Sub Inspector of Police at Kollam and R. Reghunath, then Police Constable is now retired from service.
After Investigation, a charge-sheet was filed against the accused persons including the said private person by the CBI. After taking bail, the said private person absconded and case against him was split up.
The Trial Court found both the accused guilty and convicted them.
