Ferozepur, April 29, 2014: The temporary bridge, constructed over Sutlej, collapsed today due to an overloaded truck and the driver managed to flee and nobody was reportedly hurt.
It was the main Sutlej Bridge which connects India-Pakistan Joint Check Post and constructed on two canals of Hussainiwala Barrage near India-Pakistan Border.
brThe construction work of main bridge was started in August 2011 and till date it is not completed due to dispute between Railways and Border Road Task Force (BRTF). Both Railways and BRTF were once at loggers head over a chunk of land of over 100 meter. The dispute halted the process. Finally, when district administration came to know that the disputed land falls under their territory, they issued a NOC and the halted work of the bridge was started again in October 2013.
However, the BRTF had constructed a temporary bridge which was playing an important role to connect the villagers of border area with Ferozepur. But due to an overloaded truck carrying cement sacks, it sank down.
