New Delhi, April 16 (IANS) Law Minister Kapil Sibal has moved the Election Commission against Subramanian Swamy, saying an FIR should be lodged against the BJP leader for making a false complaint against him.
In a letter to the commission that was released Wednesday, Sibal said he was given to understand that Swamy had complained April 12 to the poll panel about Sibal's "alleged wilful failure to disclose the assets and liabilities of companies owned and administered by his wife".
Terming the allegations as false, Sibal said the value of shares held by his wife in the private unlisted companies was in accordance with the law and disclosed in her wealth tax returns.
Sibal said details of his wife's wealth tax were reflected in the statement of her assets filed with the poll panel with his nomination papers for Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha seat in Delhi.
He said Swamy's claim that a company in which his wife has a stake was "one of biggest meat exporters in Asia" was unethical.
"What is even worse is the statement that the export of meat includes cow meat. This is intended to evoke religious sentiments and thus violative of the model code of conduct," Sibal said in the letter written Tuesday.
